Seamus Blackley he was one of the main creators of the original Xbox console, but left Microsoft a few years later. Despite this, he remains engaged with fans and talks a lot to the Xbox community about all things Xbox on Twitter, and in 2021 we saw him appear in the documentary series Power On: The Story of Xbox.

He has now shared his thoughts on a hot topic in the gaming industry: handheld gaming. The Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck have shown that there is still a huge market for handheld consoles, and various streaming hardware solutions have also seen great success. In fact, there are a lot of rumors going around right now that Sony will announce a portable PlayStation for streaming games, but Microsoft has so far relied entirely on third-party hardware for its cloud gaming services.

And Seamus Blackley thinks that’s a mistake and says the following: “There should have been a portable Xbox. There really should have been.”

Although it looks like it won’t happen at the moment, we don’t rule out that Microsoft has tried something later.

Would you like Xbox to announce a portable console?
