Bethesda has officially confirmed that Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami will be leaving Xbox studio Tango Gameworks, and the Xbox boss was quick to comment on the team’s high-profile departure.
Phil Spencer took for Blood to thank Mikami for his “leadership” and “guidance” since Xbox acquired the studio as part of its acquisition of Bethesda in 2021.
Thank you Mikami-san @shinji_mikami for his leadership and great contributions to the industry. Your guidance and input over the past 2 years has been invaluable to me. Looking forward to our continued friendship and looking forward to what lies ahead for @tango_jpn Phil Spencer (@XboxP3) February 23, 2023
While it’s obvious Phil and the team will miss the legendary developer as a person, they will also miss his contributions to gaming. which Phil himself seems to have enjoyed a lot in recent weeks.
As of now, it’s unclear what’s next for Mikami, but we all wish him the best. As for Tango, the team is expected to deliver a new Xbox game within a month or so, in the form of Ghostwire: Tokyo en Xbox Game Pass.
