Why this March 10 is Mar10 Day: the day of Super Mario Bros

Every March 10, known as the ‘Mario day‘(by the game of words and numbers that results Mar10), the name of the popular mustachioed Italian -who since 1983 has won the affection of gamers- has become a trend in the networks.

Last year marked 35 years since Mario made the leap to fame and built a multidisciplinary empire that still continues to entertain parents and children today.

The platform game “Super Mario Bros.” went on sale in Japan on September 13, 1985 and it revolutionized the industry with its “side scrolling”, an innovative device previously introduced without much impact by “Jump Bug” (1981), created by Alpha Densi (ADK) for recreational, and “Mappy” (1983), from Namco.

Since then, the Kyoto company has made the iconic plumber with a red cap its emblem and built a millionaire franchise that addresses genres as diverse as platforms, puzzles, car racing, sports or role-playing games.

Super Nintendo World Inauguration

Next March 18 will be the inauguration of the new theme park Super Nintendo World, an area of ​​the Universal Studios park in Japan that will be dedicated to Mario and other Nintendo characters.

Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of franchises such as Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda, was commissioned to do a small tour of some of the attractions to anticipate the inauguration that will take place in 2021.

The entrance to the park will be a green pipe like the ones Mario fans know perfectly. The end of this pipeline leads to Princess Peach’s castle, as seen in Super Mario 64. Fans will appreciate details with each step they take in this new world, such as the paintings that decorate the castle and much more.

As you exit the entrance, you can see a huge number of places to visit, as well as different Nintendo characters, both friends and enemies of Mario. Each corner of the new park will have different activities and interactive secrets for visitors to enjoy and overcome to obtain different prizes.

Miyamoto officially showed the different designs that the bracelets will have that will be a fundamental element of the experience. These bracelets will record the progress of the visitors through the different activities they carry out. They will feature designs inspired by Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Yoshi and more characters. In addition, it was anticipated that the bracelets will also fulfill the same function of the Amiibos, the official Nintendo figures that interact with the company’s consoles in different ways.. It is unknown what benefits they will bring or with what games they can be used, at least for now.

The activities can be small secrets scattered around Super Nintendo World or actions that require a little more time and concentration, as if it were a small minigame. The truth is that it seems that there will be a lot of interactivity on a constant basis, which could become a problem if the park is full of visitors.

The castle of the villain Bowser was the last great attraction that Miyamoto showed in the Nintendo Direct and it is the sector that includes the park’s roller coaster. It is an experience that simulates a race of the popular Mario Kart and required about six years of development.
