Asked about the status of this new sequel in an interview with Collider, Ritchie responded by saying that it’s entirely up to Robert Downey Jr whether the movie gets made or not:
“Well, honestly, I left it to Robert (Downey Jr.). So Robert wanted to handle it. The ball is in his court, so he’s handling the script and everything. I stayed in out of it. until it’s time to get involved.”
Additionally, Ritchie, who is currently working on Operation Fortune: Guerreatt’s Ruse, will not be directing Sherlock’s third adventure. In his place, Dexter Fletcher (Operation Fortune: Cunning War) will direct the film, but it remains to be seen if production will ever materialize.
