If you don’t start with Ochette as your first character, you’ll find her in the Beasting Village in Toto’haha.
How Ochette works in octopathic traveler 2
Ochette is amazing, and it’s all thanks to Provoke. She can have six unrelated monsters by her side at any time. You can also activate an auto-capture feature to add a random chance to capture any monster you defeat. Frankly, because of its versatility, I recommend relying on it.
Here is the full list of hunter skills Ochette can learn in octopathic traveler 2. Note that you can only get the Drafendi bow after learning all the other skills.
- Precise Shot: 6 SP to attack enemies twice with a bow.
- Thunderbird: 7SP for attacking an enemy with lightning.
- Cleaving Blow: 12SP for hitting an enemy with an ax for a type-based buff.
- Mercy Strike: 4SP to hit an enemy with a bow and leave them with 1HP.
- Take Aim: 8SP to temporarily increase everyone’s Accuracy and Critical Rate.
- Leghold Trap: 10SP to temporarily make an enemy act.
- Diminishing Orb: 9SP to negate an enemy’s buffs.
- Arc Draefendi: 30 SP to inflict arc damage to each enemy three times.
All hunter skills are great, and to be honest, you’ll want to learn all seven of them as soon as possible. This is because all four support abilities are fantastic for Ochette. Raising senses makes her act first, which is good for capturing monsters. You get this in four abilities. You also get rarer monsters across six abilities, which means potentially better allies to summon with Provoke. Eagle Eye is great because its critical rate is increased by 50. You get it after learning five skills. Finally, Salt in the Wound is the unlock of seven abilities. As the official description puts it best, “Equipping a character has a 50% chance to double act when destroying an enemy. It won’t fire straight away.”
His talent is only to prepare monsters that he does not use. This turns them into food. It is used to make friends. However, you can also use it to heal.
Plus, her Animal Instincts latent power break is wonderful. Allows you to use Beast Claws, Beast Fangs, or Beast Howl once. Bestial Howl is good because it lowers all defenses and shield points, so I like to save it for bosses. The same goes for Beastly Fangs, which is a super powerful single enemy attack. With Beastly Claws, it’s good to bring it out against general enemies, because it attacks everyone.

Ok so Ochette has a super useful path action and another that is just like that in octopathic traveler 2.
Becoming a friend is good! This is an NPC Recruit action that allows you to bring an NPC to use in battle or complete side stories. He is also related to the food he “prepares” from the monsters he “captures”. So if you push yourself and venture into high level areas, you can gain access to people you normally wouldn’t be able to access because Temenos’ level is too low to guide them or Agnea’s charm is based on chance. Not to mention it’s cheaper than Partitio’s Hire.
She can also taunt someone. It’s basically a way to knock them out the same way Throne can ambush or Castti can appease. Like Hikari’s Challenge, it’s a daytime action. However, I only really needed it for side stories like “The Late Riser”, so… not the best!
What side jobs are good for Ochette in octopathic traveler 2
Honestly, Ochette’s Provoke is so good you might not even need to use any pro skills. It’s just wonderful.
If so, go with a octopathic traveler 2 parallel work that adds additional weapons to Ochette’s repertoire may be useful. The master-at-arms gives all, which can’t hurt. If you use Ochette as an attacker, giving him the warrior class adds the sword and spear to the ax and bow he always uses.
If you rely on his hunter abilities as a mitigation, then the thief and his complementary abilities and access to sword and dagger weapons work well.
