The end credits song during The last of us episode seven was left behind, which was written and composed by Gustavo Santaollala himself. The brilliant composer originally presented his creation in the DLC of the video game of the same name from Naughty Dog.

Left Behind in its entirety begins with a simple piano melody which eventually develops into a much more complex arrangement. After the solo piano intro is complete, it is soon accompanied by acoustic and electric guitar which seemingly follows a similar chord progression.

Its melancholic tone captures the devastating emotion of the final scenes of episode seven when Ellie and Riley discover they have been bitten. However, the song also has a kind of hopeful mood to it once the guitar sections kick in, depicting Ellie’s unwavering love and loyalty to Joel and how she fights to save him.
