Octopath Traveler II features eight characters with different abilities and backgrounds. You will explore their stories and develop their skills as they work with their allies to decimate the battlefield. Each character is unique and has its advantages and disadvantages, but you have to start the game on the right foot. Who is the best character to start your adventure?

There’s no right or wrong answer here, because any character can be great at first. But the best character is probably the Thief, Throne.

Why is Throne the best starting character?

Throne starts with a sword, dagger, and dark elemental magic. His stats are also solid early on, allowing him to deal damage and take a few hits. If you have to train it early, you should have no trouble dealing with the enemies you encounter. With a few simple healing items, you should be able to easily clear your Chapter One history.

Throné’s real advantage is its ability to fly during the day. You can steal items from townspeople and your success depends on your level. When introduced, his steal rate is considerably high, and the townspeople around him have good items to steal. It’s possible to work your way up to a better team without paying a dime, giving Throne an incredible head start.

You can also take Throne to the different towns as you start building your party, and she can start stealing from the townspeople there. As your level increases, your flying success also increases. This allows you to get relatively good items without paying any money, which is great for building your party’s team while staying within your budget.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with starting another character, and Throne isn’t the only option when it comes to a good fighter. But for an easy start and a path to work your way to better items, you can’t go wrong with Throne.
