The dead are raised in an upcoming Walking Dead Empires Public Test! With an expanded map, NFT capability, and PvP options, this playtest should offer a lot more content than its alpha preview from last summer!
Officially known as The Walking Dead Empires (TWDE) Winter Demo, this playtest begins March 20, 2023 and lasts for two weeks. Playable on PC or Mac, anyone with a Gala Games account can participate!
Although this playtest is open to everyone, NFTs are not mandatory, anyone with Land or Hero NFTs will receive certain benefits. Those with land NFTs will be able to unlock higher siege tiers. For hero owners, they will automatically be assigned to play as the highest rarity hero (not sure how the ties are broken). By playing the “winter demo”, your hero will earn a permanent “winter demo XP”. It’s not the same as the usual experience for heroes, but it will provide some kind of advantage in the future.
Anyone who doesn’t have NFT heroes will have characters to play as, but they won’t get any permanent experience.
This playtest features 81 areas, a significant increase from the 9 available during pre-alpha. The larger map offers more terrain types as well as PvP battlegrounds. After all, humans are the real monsters, aren’t they? But in addition to other humans, players will also face undead, some of which are more dangerous than standard walkers. And sometimes walkers can even gather in large herds, posing a danger to even the most experienced players!
Basic construction also takes on a new dimension. As players build larger bases, they can claim additional territories nearby, including those already held by other players! So finding a group to build with can be a much better option than trying to go it alone. And to help foster unity, players will be able to form alliances of up to 20 members. Players can also place crafting stations to create better and more complex items.

What is Walking Dead: Empires?
Walking Dead: Empires is a multiplayer strategy and survival game set in the Walking Dead universe. Players survive the apocalypse by fighting walkers and building a base. As players upgrade their base, they must defend it against waves of walkers trying to break down walls and destroy the base flag. Players can also own special NFTs like forges, labs, and furniture. Place these NFTs in your base to provide bonuses or additional functionality.
The game features a variety of melee and ranged weapons, many (if not all) of which can be crafted by the player. Each weapon comes with its own set of special attacks. Players harvest and collect materials to use in crafting and base building. In Walking Dead: Empires, players can also own land. The larger the terrain, the more allies can join you. Common storylines can have up to three players in an alliance, while old storylines can support up to 50!
The game will feature PvP. You will also have opportunities to play to win by accumulating DeadCoin, a token on Ethereum. Walking Dead: Empires is part of the Gala Games ecosystem.
