Ubisoft apparently developing a Minecraft-like voxel game where players collaborate with each other. The game was revealed after Assassin’s Creed Origins creative director Jean Guesdon said he was working on an unannounced project until he left the company last month.

Minecraft-like game avoided being canceled

Ubisoft recently canceled Project Q and a number of unannounced games that included a Watch Dogs battle royale title, but that game reportedly escaped the hatchet. Codenamed Renaissance, sources who spoke to Kotaku described it as “a collaborative voxel-based game with Minecraft shadows.” The unannounced game is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X | S and PC since 2018, and three former Ubisoft devs have claimed it’s “one of the most promising ongoing projects in the company.” However, his future is no longer clear following Guesdon’s departure from Ubisoft after 17 years with the company.

The publisher has ventured into voxel projects before, most recently creating Rabbids NFT voxel assets for inclusion in the blockchain metaverse called The Sandbox. Renaissance is not believed to be related to this project, or NFT in general, especially since Ubisoft’s NFT platform, Quartz, was considered a flop.
