According to an internal email shared on ResetEra, Ubisoft plans to close European offices, including the Benelux office.

Alarming rumors have recently surfaced about Ubisoft, the French video game giant. According to some sources, the publisher plans to close several of its offices. Fans of the brand and employees are now wondering which subsidiaries would be affected.

Ubisoft closes one of its studios

According to the excerpt from Ubisoft’s letter, posted on ResetEra: » As we all know the market is constantly changing and as an organization we need to keep up to date. Currently, Ubisoft is facing several challenges due to external factors, such as the decline in sales of physical games in favor of digital sales, the centralization of marketing by digitizing all our communication channels, the transition from consumer releases to F2P, mobile and seasonal games and small physical shows… To face the challenges of the future, the management of Ubisoft has decided to close several subsidiaries in Europe. Unfortunately, the Ubisoft Benelux entity is subject to a scheduled closure with the departure of the majority of employees on April 1, 2023. »

Although Ubisoft is supposed to close several European officesthe email only directly mentions your office in the Benelux. The publisher will entirely outsource the distribution of physical games to a distributor to be announced later. As for the development studios, the closures do not seem to have an impact on them.. From the email, it appears that only the marketing and distribution offices are closed by the publisher.

Asked about this decision by our colleagues from Insider Gaming, Ubisoft has not yet made an official statement. Of course, we will keep you informed once new information on this subject arrives.
