An unofficial fix for performance issues affecting Hogwarts Legacy. Released in less than ideal condition, the patch did much to frustrate many fans with the port for computer of Hogwarts Legacy.

Released on February 7 for fans who purchased the deluxe edition and February 10 for everyone else, Hogwarts Legacy was a critical and commercial success.

Reviews are mostly positive, and the number of concurrent players has far exceeded expectations. Following an event that aired on February 9, Hogwarts Legacy became the most-watched single-player game of all time on Twitch, with 1.29 million viewers.

By all indications, Avalanche Software has fulfilled the dream of a generation of gamers who grew up with Harry Potter. That’s not to say the game is entirely free of glitches, with several performance issues in the PC version.

A post on Reddit revealed performance issues for many players on the PC version of the game. With frame rates dropping to single digits during certain sections of the game, the reddit user described a simple fix that doesn’t requires nothing more than access to the Hogwarts Legacy game files and the user’s PC graphics card settings.

The solution is to first access the GPU settings of the PC to disable hardware accelerated GPU scheduling. Next, the player must navigate to Hogwarts Legacy’s AppData and enter a series of commands that the user has kindly typed in for others to copy and paste into the Engine.ini file.

Finally, for Nvidia users, the post recommends setting the shader cache size to 10 GB in the global 3D settings in the graphics control panel. After completing these steps, PC gamers who were experiencing performance issues should see a noticeable improvement in their gameplay.
