Developer Splash Damage is teaming up with two of the biggest names in FPS streaming to create a new open-world survival game, currently known as Project Astrid. Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek and Chris “Sacriel” Ball are best known for excelling in games like CSGO, Valorant, Battlefield, DayZ, CoD Warzone, and PUBG Battlegrounds. They are now engaged in collaborative game development with the developer behind classic multiplayer FPS Enemy Territory Quake Wars and spin-off Gears Tactics.
“I want to make the best game ever, that’s my goal,” says Shroud, a former Counter-Strike pro, in the Project Astrid announcement video. Sacriel, one of Britain’s most popular Twitch streamers of all time, adds: “For the past few years one of my dreams has been to go on Twitch and watch people play a game that I have participated.”
The duo were joined by Splash Damage creative director Lance Winter to announce their new project, which Shroud said was kicked off by a message from Sacriel asking if they’d be interested in making a game together. “Immediately, I hit it with three words: ‘Yeah, I’m down.'” The pair then teamed up with Splash Damage, which Winter said was already beginning development on a new open-world game focused on survival. .
It looks like the pair’s main involvement will be honing that perfect feel that defines the best shooters. “I remember my first death in my first survival game,” Sacriel recalls with an enthusiastic look, “because those games tell more stories than any other genre.” As two of the most recognizable names in first-person shooters, they certainly have a deep understanding of what makes a shooter click.
“For me, what makes Survival incredibly compelling is this pervasive sense of tension and drama,” says Winter, saying the team is excited to “do something really new in Survival.” Currently working on Transformers Reactivate, Splash Damage has a 20-year history stretching back from beloved Wolfenstein spin-off Enemy Territory and its sequel Quake Wars to working on Gears of War 4, Gears 5, and Halo The. Master Chief Collection. , as well as the creation of the spin-off strategy game Gears Tactics.
The Astrid project is currently in pre-production, with more details to follow in the near future. Meanwhile, Sacriel and Shroud are expected to discuss the news on their respective Twitch channels following the announcement.
