Someone made a 400cc mod for Mario Kart 8, and it looks downright terrifying.

Last week, the below clip hit Twitter showing an incredible 400cc mod for Mario Kart 8, where they almost flew off the track without any provocation.

For those unfamiliar, this is double the maximum difficulty level offered in Mario Kart 8 as standard. In fact, 200cc was first introduced in 8th grade as an extreme challenge for veteran riders, and it’s very tough even if you’re playing against a roster of AI riders.

It’s like going from driving a normal car to steering a Formula 1 vehicle. All it takes is a slight turn of the steering wheel or hitting even the smallest bump in the road, and there’s a good chance that you are thrown out of your path and probably off the road. At least here’s a Lakitu to revive you.

One thing to note is that this mod doesn’t just speed up Mario Kart 8 for the 400cc difficulty. It alters all aspects of movement, including vehicle spins, meaning we can flip cars through the air as they glide, which normally wouldn’t happen otherwise.

It’s certainly an impressive creation, but let’s stop waiting for it to reach the world for public consumption. The stress in these racing circumstances would be almost unbearable.

Mario Kart 8 servers on Wii U recently went offline thanks to an exploit that Nintendo is still working to fix.
