Anyone who has seen not just John Wick: Chapter 4, but any of the films in the franchise, is no doubt wondering what kind of training Keanu Reeves goes through to be able to complete such a variety of demanding fight sequences. Well, thankfully, Reeves’ trainer Patrick Murphy recently sat down with GQ to talk about that process and how he’s getting Reeves fit for the role.

We are told that training largely revolves around cable and band resistance activities and zero heavy lifting sessions, as the goal was never to build muscle mass, but rather to build muscle. affect Reeves’ posture, alignment and stabilization, so he could handle such a demanding movie schedule as he was in his 50s.

To add to that, getting into John Wick shape also requires modern recovery efforts, which means cryotherapy and ice baths, and a whole-food diet backed by recovery supplements to keep the actor going. in fighting form.

But of course, this level of training requires consistency and a strong mental attitude, and Murphy said Reeves trained daily (even on weekends) after stunt practice and that was “unparalleled in concentration and effort for a physical role.”
