The Witcher 3 update 4.02 arrived for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in March, promising improved visuals and performance, and Digital Foundry has confirmed that it’s a big update, at least. for Xbox Series X.

The report only focuses on the Series X and PS5 versions, and the big takeaway from this patch is an improvement to Performance mode, which now runs at a near-fixed 60 FPS compared to the often slower frame rate of the update. updated to 4.01.

“Xbox Series X is where there’s an even bigger bump in performance gains. In all areas, it’s an absolute improvement: from combat to riding, the new patch restores us to 60fps But what’s mostly encouraging is that the city of Novigrad has also clearly improved by the same token, unlike the PS5 version.

“It’s worth saying that Series X started at a much worse point here, performance-wise, so there was a lot more ground to cover. Again, the latest update puts The Witcher 3 in a better place than ever.”

Meanwhile, the 30FPS ray tracing mode is mostly unchanged in performance from the previous update, so there’s not much to write home about. Basically, it’s a pretty consistent 30fps.

Digital Foundry’s conclusion is that The Witcher 3 Complete Edition has “never performed better on Xbox”, with the game being described as “in great condition”. In other words, now is the perfect time to get started!
