He is fast. it’s rough. If you make a mistake, you risk flying over the handlebars. But it hits the sweet spot in Descenders, the cycling-based roguelike that hit Steam in 2019, and becomes a relaxing, zen trip to the center of relaxation. A smash hit that has amassed millions of gamers, – Game News now has the exclusive on the Descenders sequel. Originally presented to publisher No More Robots as “Spelunky on bikes”, keep in mind that the sequel to Descenders will not be called Descenders 2. Mike Rose, founder of No More Robots, we gives an overview.
“We’re working with (Descenders dev) RageSquid on something new,” Rose tells us, in an exclusive interview, live at WASD 2023. “Descenders was pretty important to all of us. themselves. It’s just three guys and it’s been played by 20 million people or something.
“So doing more in the Descenders universe has definitely been something on our minds for a while, and they’ve been working on something for a while now, and I think we’ll announce it this year.”
However, Rose is rather enigmatic regarding the nature of the Descenders sequel; as far as we know, it won’t be called Descenders 2.
“I’ll tell you what I can say,” Rose continues. “Number ‘two’ isn’t involved. But it’s not a remake. Imagine Descenders, but then someone said ‘what if we take this and cross the line?’ We’re talking with A, B and C right now about whether they want to advertise with us. Soon, something Descenders-y is going to happen. I’m very excited about it.”
Although Rose can’t specify exactly who or what she means by “A”, “B” and “C”, when I think of video game commercials: big Video game ads. I can think of three names: Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. Perhaps in addition to PC, the new Descenders can also make their way to consoles.
However, the partnership between RaqeSquid and No More Robots is solid. “Descenders in general has always been very special to us, because I signed on to this game before I even founded No More Robots,” Rose explains. “RaqeSquid trusted me a lot. They came to me with this demo and said “it’s like Spelunky on a bike”. And then they left with me, without any basis.
