Thaumaturge, formerly known as Vitriol, an RPG set in Warsaw under the Russian partition, has been announced. Take a look at this Fool’s Theory game thanks to the atmospheric trailer.
As announced, we saw the pitcher – an isometric Fool’s Theory RPG, previously codenamed Vitriol. On Steam and GOG, as well as on the Epic Games Store, cards for these products have appeared. A short and atmospheric CGI trailer was also unveiled. You can see it below.
Casters and Greeters
To date, we knew very little about The Thaumaturgist, mainly that the action takes place at the beginning of the 20th century in Warsaw under the control of the Russian Empire. Now, thanks to the game’s official description, we can find out more about its plot. As we read:
“In this world, a force that cannot be ignored is that of thaumaturges. People accustomed to taming esoteric beings called Salutors, which they then use to manipulate other people’s moods and intentions, but also to fight. The devil is in the details, after all, only Thaumaturges are fully aware of the nature of Salutors and only they can perceive their true essence. The ability of saviors to exert meaningful influence over others clearly enhances their masters’ ability to change the world around them. However, thaumaturgy is still a power that should be used with caution.
The discussed power of thaumaturgy can be seen in the trailer, where a masked figure begins to control a Dark Salutor. Although the actual gameplay is not shown in the video, the first screenshots show it. One of them shows the Salutor from the trailer, his attacks and his stats.

Another screenshot is a battle plane which in the pitcher will be played in turn. The player will apparently be able to choose between various attacks displayed as cards above the character’s head.

An important part of the game will also be “ambiguous moral choices”, influencing and manipulating the temperaments of other characters. The thaumaturge will also have search mechanisms.
release date not available
The economic service of the Polish press agency publishes the news (in Polish) of the launch of the promotional campaign for the game. Thanks to him, we know that in March, during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, the gameplay of The Thaumaturge will be presented behind closed doors.
Unfortunately, we didn’t even know the approximate release date of the game. It is developed on Unreal Engine 5, and its publisher is 11 bit studios. Finally, remember that Fool’s Theory is also working on a remake of The Witcher in parallel.
