If you are one of the more than 1,250,000 viewers who have already seen Super Mario Bros. : the film in Spain, you surely (at least) smiled seeing the scene from the top of Jack Black Bowser on the piano, where he dedicates a moving song (whose lyrics we’ve saved in their entirety in Spanish, in case you want to do the backing vocals for the King of the Koopas) to his beloved and unreachable Princess Peach.

The subject has passed six million views on YouTube, and now the possibility is being floated that the song could compete for an Oscar at next year’s ceremony. According to the nomination statutes (thanks Variety), for a song to be nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Song, it must have been composed specifically for a movie, which it is.

Who knows if we’ll see Jack Black land an Oscar next year for his portrayal of Peaches in Super Mario Bros.: The Movie, but the subject has certainly already earned a special place in our hearts.
