The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition officially released on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S earlier this week after its surprise announcement at the end of February, and first impressions have been quite interesting to watch.

Overall, the reviews are mostly very positive. There haven’t been many yet, but OpenCritic gave the game a “Best Average Review” of 83, which places it in the “Strong” category on this website. The enhanced visuals are the highlight of some of these reviews, and many of them also focus on the actual base game and its DLC being excellent as well, which we obviously already knew.

So what’s the downside here? Well, all of the complaints are mostly performance related right now, with reports of frame rate drops on consoles and PC. This includes the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S releases (especially the former), which is disappointing given how well the base game has already run on those platforms.

There are also a few other issues, like issues with the upgrade path, but performance definitely seems to be a priority for most Xbox Spacer’s Choice Edition owners right now. We’re hoping to get a patch to fix these issues very soon – the PC version seems to be in particular need of it, as it currently has a “Mostly Negative” rating based on Steam reviews so far.

We’re getting close to a review copy of The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition, but we haven’t received one before launch, so we haven’t tested any of it yet. However, the excellent “Fuzion Xbox Test” on YouTube provided a brief look at the game running on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and you can check it out below:
