It looks like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be the first Nintendo game to sell at current-gen prices, and fans aren’t quite sure how they feel about it.

last night nintendo briefly listed (opens in a new tab) the next Zelda game on the US eShop for $69.99 before it’s gone. While it might have been silly, it’s worth mentioning that Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop all have stopped taking pre-orders for Tears of the Kingdom (opens in a new tab), and they were priced at $59.99.

If Tears of the Kingdom ends up costing $69.99, it would be the first time Nintendo has sold a standard edition Switch game for more than $60. It would be a move that wouldn’t be out of step with the rest of the industry. , however Sony and Microsoft at least have next-gen consoles to point to as part of the reason. PC stores like Steam and the Epic Games Store are also no strangers to these prices, although upgrading and maintaining a PC is a different beast.

Fans already have their say on the potential price. One of the most common arguments against the potential prize is that Tears of the Kingdom is still many works on nintendo switch (opens in a new tab) and not a new console, OLED model or not. On the other hand, many gamers have been waiting years for a sequel to Breath of the Wild, so an extra ten bucks won’t put them off. (opens in a new tab)

Either way, we may have our answer soon. As we previously reported, Nintendo is hosting another Direct later today, promising 40 minutes of game announcements. Although the publisher often notes if a Direct is specifically related to an upcoming game, as it did with Pokemon and Splatoon, we’ve yet to hear anything like that. Still, with Tears of the Kingdom so close to release and the eShop bug, it would be surprising if we didn’t see anything from the next Zelda game.

Nintendo Direct Predictions? We know it.
