The PC edition of Last of Us Part I was quite poorly received by PC gamers, but it still gets good activity results.

Last week saw the release of the PC version of The Last of Us Part I, a remake of one of the best exclusives ever released on Sony consoles. Enough time has passed since the start of the PC version to analyze it. The conclusions are not good for the developers of Naughty Dog.

Mixed reception on Steam

  1. Currently, only 44% of player reviews on Steam praise The Last of Us Part Iwhich is qualified as “mixed” reception. Such a negative reaction is due to the disastrous technical conditions of the port.
  2. However, this poor result is good news for the developers, because immediately after the launch, the proportion of positive reviews was only around thirty percent.
  3. As a result, reception of the game has improved slightly, thanks to two small updates.
  4. However, 44% is still a dismal result. This is by far the worst PC port received from a PlayStation exclusive to date. In comparison, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, a port of a previous Naughty Dog game, has 89% positive reviews on Steam.
  5. Sony’s worst-received previous port was Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture with 69% positive reviews.

Players complain, but grit their teeth and keep playing

The poor reception of the PC version of The Last of Us Part I is due to the port’s nightmarish level of technical condition. However, this does not prevent the game from achieving good activity results.

  1. The launch day activity log was 36,496 concurrent users on Steam.. This is the fourth best result among Sony game ports – only Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Horizon: Zero Dawn and God of War did better.
  2. Among PlayStation games, the leader in activity scores is God of War with 73,529 players. The Adventures of Kratos did twice as well as The Last of Us Part I.
  3. In turn, the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection port record is only 10,851 players at a time, so despite its dire technical state, TLoU1 does much better than the PC version of Naughty Dog’s previous hit.
  4. Also, it’s not just The Last of Us Part I’s activity log, set on launch day, that’s high (this could be a result of brand recognition). More surprising is the fact that after dealing with a disastrous port, many players continue to play rather than wait for more patches. yesterday, at the hottest hour of the day, over 17,000 people simultaneously played the title on Steamwhich is a very good result for a relatively short single-player game six days after launch.

The number of players combined with the slowly improving reception is good news for Naughty Dog. They show that despite the port’s abysmal quality, PC gamers aren’t quite ready to give up The Last of Us Part I just yet.

The developers promise to fix all the shortcomings. It remains to be hoped that they keep their word and that in the future a similar slippage will not happen again.
