Microsoft take your new subscription plan”Friends and family” of Xbox Game Pass to six other countries. This development marks the first expansion of the service since the launch of this subscription level in September 2022.
As the name suggests, the Friends & Family plan is for those looking for an affordable way to share the growing Xbox Game Pass library with loved ones.
It allows up to five people to enjoy all the rewards of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at a significant discount compared to buying individual subscriptions, the only caveat being its geographical availability, initially limited to Colombia and to Ireland.
Five months later, the Xbox Game Pass Friends and Family plan was expanded to Chile, Hungary, Israel, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sweden. Considering the prices listed in the new supported European markets, the 21.99 euro (about $24) package is already slightly more affordable than paying for two Game Pass Ultimate accounts each, for example.
By contrast, a group that takes full advantage of Microsoft’s offer can get all the benefits of five Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions for a third of the combined cost of the individual licenses. This price is the same as that which previously applied to the Friends and Family plan in Ireland.
Microsoft didn’t provide details on when the Friends and Family plan might roll out to other countries. But its first expansion makes it clear that the initial release was a success, as the number of supported countries quadrupled this time around, and it should stay that way.
