It’s been a while, but Atomic Heart is almost here for Xbox Game Pass players. While the title is already available on Xbox at some regionsits official release date is set for February 21, 2023.

The reviews are now starting to roll in, so here’s a quick rundown of what the reviewers are saying so far!

“The game’s premise remains intriguing throughout, and its main quests provide great combat scenarios to find yourself in, especially when it comes to using powers and the skill tree system to create However, the game’s outer world is largely skippable, which is a huge disappointment, and its main story does little to enhance the incredibly interesting world created by Mundfish.

Atomic Heart is worth playing for immersive FPS fans, but it’s wise to temper your expectations when comparing names like BioShock and DOOM. Atomic Heart is a solid alternate history shooter, but it takes a little more than building an intriguing world to become a true genre great.

“2023 has already been rich with contenders for Game of the Year, and Atomic Heart is another. It lives up to all expectations and promises; an amazing debut game for Mundfish. Atomic Heart is phenomenal is almost impossible because it’s extraordinary in every one of them. It’s not only my favorite game this year, it could be one of my favorites of the decade.”

“Atomic Heart is without a doubt one of the best first-person shooter campaigns I’ve played in years. Along with rock-solid gameplay, the game offers intriguing mystery and a powerful leveling system It’s even more impressive when you remember that this is developer Mundfish’s debut game. Aside from the controversial issues and lack of enemy variety, it’s hard to point out any glaring issues with Atomic Heart. .”

IGN (8/10)

“Atomic Heart is a deeply ambitious, highly imaginative, and still impressive atompunk-inspired attempt to pick up where BioShock left off, which it did very successfully. It certainly takes missteps, mostly with a protagonist irritating and an indulgent habit of using the same tired tropes it tries to poke fun at, but this stark, super-powered, strictly single-player shooter worked its way under my skin despite those flaws. Atomic Heart didn’t always blow my mind , but he definitely has the ticking to hit well above his weight.”

“A story-driven shooter that’s bursting with ideas and features a distinctive sci-fi setting in its cursed USSR. There are embarrassing moments and occasional design flaws, but the way your abilities and the enemy ecosystem intertwine is a constant thrill.”

“There really is a lot to love about this game. The graphics are as ‘next-gen’ as they come, the world is beautiful, the audio and soundtrack are of the highest quality, and the narrative is utterly engaging. and engaging. If it weren’t for its clunky and overly complicated nature, Atomic Heart would probably be one of the best games of the year.”

“This combination of shooter, stealth, and RPG proudly wears its influences, but rarely matches them. Its alternate historical setting is interesting, and there are many ways to approach robot killing, but these elements are at odds with the messy storytelling and characterization.”

“There are quite a few parts of Atomic Heart that don’t fit together perfectly, and these disparities create an experience that often feels at odds with itself. This disparity is most obvious in the interest of the story. of the world in Atomic Heart and sets up an intriguing conversation about the nature of free will and collectivism, but then the unlikable protagonist repeatedly prevents this topic from being explored. Atomic Heart is sure to appeal to some people, especially those looking to relive BioShock Infinite, but aren’t an easy recommendation.

“Atomic Heart has a lot of great ideas, but it doesn’t do a good job with the basics. With an incomprehensible story, weightless combat, and frustrating first-person platforming, Atomic Heart falls into the shadows of games video that so clearly inspired him.”

Despite what is a promising combat formula, and the support systems behind it when it comes to skills, crafting, and upgrades, there are also several equally frustrating aspects that hold the game back. Hope is that Mundfish will be able to solve some of the more glaring post-launch problems, but at the moment this looks less like a welcome revolution and more like a nuclear disaster.”

There is certainly a wide range of scores for Atomic Heart, then! Right now the game is in a solid 76 on Metacritic at the time of writing, putting the Pure Xbox review pretty close to the overall average.
