It’s no secret that Forspoken didn’t have the success Square Enix was looking for. After some rather poor reviews (see our analysis of the game, without going any further), the two months or so since its launch and a financial report from the company allow us to have an idea of how the game has sold at worldwide level (although we have a fairly precise idea of sales in Spain).

And it turns out that the answer is not good at all. The report notes that “reported sales were lackluster” and that the performance of other new Square Enix titles in the last quarter of fiscal year 2022/23 (including Octopath Traveler II) placed the company’s annual earnings at “considerable downside risk”.

Square Enix noted, however, that while Forspoken’s reviews have been “harsh”, the game has received support on their systems as an action title, which “will lead to improving our development capabilities for other games to the future”.

Do you agree with Square Enix? Have you played Forspoken beyond the demo?
