Sony Interactive Entertainment Quiere ps5 games to be the best third-party cross-platform game releases. According to Portfolio and Third-Party Acquisitions Manager Shawne Benson, this means utilizing features unique to the PS5 and its peripherals.

How Sony wants third-party PS5 games to be the best builds available

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Benson said that while there is always room for exclusives, third-party developers benefit more from releasing their games on as many platforms as possible. However, Sony wants the PS5 versions of these games to stand out. To achieve this, Sony encourages developers to use technologies such as 3D audio, DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers.

“It thinks less about exclusivity and more about the kind of technologies they could adopt that would really make the PS5 sing,” Benson explained. “So there’s a lot of things we could do and then create marketing stories, and that’s where some of these partnerships for cross-platform games really come in.”

In fact, Sony has devoted quite a few PlayStation Blog posts and marketing trailers to highlighting PS5-exclusive features in major third-party games like Hogwarts Legacy. Benson revealed that Sony doesn’t specifically pay developers to build DualSense features into their games, but offers marketing and development support where it makes “a good PlayStation story”.
