Yes, you read that right! Sony has recently taken the first steps to be able to publish the successor consoles of the Playstation 5. In order not to miss anything, the Japanese company is already planning to release the Playstation 10. And yet it will be decades before the next-next-next-gen console appears on the market.

Playstation

The sales of the Playstation 5 are currently breaking all records. Although it looks like the device is constantly sold out, the sales figures for the PS5 are gigantic. In the first 4 months since the release, 7.5 million units were sold. This makes it the fastest-selling console after launch.

The PS4 has just cracked 113 million sales, making it the second best-selling console in history, behind the PS2. The PS5 should also rise into these spheres. So developer Sony has some good reasons to stick with their consoles. An important step has now been taken to ensure this.

Playstation 10

So what’s up with the plans for the PS10? It is clear that Sony would like to hold on to their successful product for as long as possible. Therefore, precautions have already been taken to be able to publish Playstations even after the PS5.

To ensure this, Sony has now secured the trademark rights for the PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9 and PS10. In principle, this procedure is not new. However, the period. The PS2 and PS3 were registered as secure trademarks just one year before the release. The PS5 was already registered in 2006, although it first appeared in 2020.

This means that the rights to the name Playstation 10 have now been secured, although it will probably only appear in 30 to 40 years. However, this game cannot be played forever.

Because brands expire after a certain period of time. The protection will expire in 25 years. So this may mean that Sony would like to tighten the release cycle for the next 5 consoles a little.
