After Sons of the Forest Steam users already overtook Rust and Rainbow Six Siege, the multiplayer game also dethroned Twitch’s most popular category, Just Chatting, very briefly when it launched, and it should happen again soon.
While Twitch’s Just Chatting is a perennially popular category with streamers and viewers, Sons of the Forest had a brief moment to top it. Twitch’s Just Chatting peaked at around 606,791 viewers on February 23, the day of Sons of the Forest’s early access launch, while the survival game peaked at 769,285 on the same day. That’s over 150,000 live viewers for Sons of the Forest to chat alone at the tops of both categories on February 23.
It’s still early days and Sons of the Forest will likely need time to settle into its own average Twitch viewership, but the game is back to around 300,000 concurrent viewers on Twitch as of publication date, coming close to beating Just Chatting from Twitch. several times (via Twitch Tracker).
Whether Sons of the Forest will outperform Twitch’s Just Chatting again remains to be seen, but the horror game’s mammoth launch can’t be understated at this point, considering it also recently overtook Starfield as a game. Most Wanted on Steam.
