Bohemia Interactive is pleased to announce Silica, a new IP from the well-known developer. In Silica, players can choose to play as a commander (in RTS mode) or as an infantryman and control all the units and vehicles in their arsenal with an FPS perspective. Your mission on this seemingly barren planet is simple: locate and collect Balterium, an element of enormous untapped potential that can fuel human civilization for generations!

Silica is the first title born in Bohemia Incubator, a new imprint of Bohemia Interactive aimed at helping independent game creators develop and bring their video games to a global audience. Silica It will soon enter Early Access on Steam.

Most of the development of Silica It was managed by a single developer: Martin “Dram” Melichárek. His name might be familiar to those who love Bohemia Interactive games, as he was the lead developer for Take On Mars. The idea that led him to develop Silica dates back to 2008. Today, thanks to Bohemia Incubator, his dream of publishing the game has finally come true.

The game will be available very soon on the Steam Early Access Game Show and will remain in this phase for 9-12 months. Several major updates are already planned throughout the year.

Command from above or put your feet on the ground

Silica It immersively mixes first-person shooters and real-time strategy, each true to its respective genre. The game gives players the freedom to choose, without forcing them to play with one gender or another.

If you prefer your boots to be muddy, bullets whizzing past your head and the menacing jaws of aliens closing in, the infantry role is for you. You won’t be limited to being a simple soldier, you will also be able to control the available vehicles, such as the colossal Harvester, the fast Light Quad or the fearsome Siege Tank, to name a few. If metal chewing is your thing, your ideal faction is the aliens, the creatures that inhabit the planet and have a hive mentality. Players will be able to become aware of different creatures such as the stealthy Crab, the agile Hunter or the armored Goliath.

For those who prefer commanding their troops from a distance, the prestigious role of Commander awaits them. Commanders are the only ones safe as they lead their army from orbit around the planet. Deploy the harvesters and hide the valuable resources you seek. Build and position gigantic structures to produce and dispatch the units that will fight and dominate the battlefield.

Three game modes to choose from

The game offers a wide variety of game modes. Strategy is Silica’s main game mode. In this mode, players fight for power by building, harvesting, and attacking the enemy. Strategy mode seamlessly blends RTS and FPS elements and can be played in any combination, even going as far as a three-way factional conflict. Prospector mode also serves as Silica’s tutorial. It is offered as an FPS, playable in single player or multiplayer. Players start near a landing pod and are tasked with searching the area for a source of Balterium. They will encounter enemy forces along the way and will have to complete all the objectives to make it out alive. The third mode, Arena, offers a fun and crazy environment where players choose their favorite unit and face off in an FPS pitched battle that anyone can participate in.

Introducing Bohemia Incubator: A New Opportunity for Indie Game Creators
Historically, Bohemia Interactive has not only been associated with game development, but also with game publishing. Bohemia has successfully helped launch titles created by smaller studios and independent developers that have succeeded in the global market.

“In this sense, we are going back to our roots. We are transforming the current Bohemia Incubator, which until now served as a platform for us to study new interesting projects, apply new technologies and develop games outside of our main production. But now, with its new format, we are also opening up Bohemia Incubator to third-party developers who are working on exciting game projects, but lack the necessary financial and editorial resources. For independent developers who wish to join and enter Bohemia Incubator, we can offer over 20 years of game development experience and the highest level of technical knowledge, as well as quality assurance, marketing and support. of publication. Eligible projects must have reached at least the playable prototype stage“, explains Marek Španěl, founder and managing director of Bohemia Interactive.

Bohemia Incubator’s goal is to help develop the indie game scene, mainly in the Czech Republic, and help talented developers achieve their dream of proudly presenting their games to the world. Silica is the first title to be fully “born” in this new era of Bohemia Incubator.
