Elden Ring lacks any kind of official pact system (factions with reputation and rewards), but Volcano Manor (and Bloody Fingers) fill the void admirably. Gaining entry from anyone can be an ordeal, with long quest chains or long treks through the Middlelands. And is it worth joining the recused blasphemers of Volcano Manor, or should you head east to the capital of Leyndell?

Is it a good idea to join Volcano Manor at Elden Ring?

Although getting to Volcano Manor requires quite a bit of time and effort, every second is worth it. It’s the source of the finest armor in the Elden Ring, plus a mostly free PvP element and some niche but fun sorcery to boot.

If you don’t encounter Rya in Liurnia and then on the Altus plateau, you’ll need to go around Mount Gelmir and reach the mansion proper. There, when Tanith asks if you want to join, say yes. Refusing to join won’t affect anything negatively, and you can talk to Tanith again to rejoin at any time (as long as you haven’t killed Rykard).

Once you’re a member of Volcano Manor, head down the hall to the living room to pick up the Recusing Finger and Volcano Manor Letter. Also talk to Bernahl, as he will have presents for you later.

The map shows you the location of a target that you need to invade and kill. They are NPC targets, so PvP is not necessary. Defeating each earns rewards, and you’ll need to return to the mansion for a new letter and a new objective. Tanith will also reward you each time you succeed.

  • objective 1: Old Knight Istvan in Limgrave. Once defeated, you receive the Scaled Set. Tanith grants the Magma Shot spell.
  • goal 2: Rileigh the idler on the plateau of Altus. Once defeated, you will receive the Vial of Kinky and 20 Black-Key Bolts. Tanith grants the Serpent Bone Blade.
