Sherlock Holmes the waking is getting a full remake on Xbox next month, and the Frogwares team is here to show off more of their upcoming detective horror adventure. Although it’s a reimagining of the 2007 original, this new version of The Awakened will have a “totally reworked” story set in 2023.

The dev team says this patch is intended to put more emphasis on both main characters, so you can expect Holmes and Watson to get their fair share of stardom in next month’s remake.

Here’s what Lead Narrative Designer Antonina Melnykova had to say about the new story elements:

“One of the biggest changes we’ve made narratively in this remake is how the relationship between young Holmes and Watson unfolds. It’s our creative take on the horrors the two could have encounter in their first major case that would later solidify their famous bond. Therefore, we’ve highlighted Watson a lot more here than before. He has a completely unique story from the original game, parts of the game are playable, and the new ending is heavily influenced for both him and Sherlock.

As Sherlock faces supernatural gods, monsters, cults, and the questioning of his very existence, Watson often acts as an anchor to keep Sherlock from spiraling too far into madness. But we couldn’t just make Watson look like this one-dimensional safety net with no character or flaw of its own. So this new version of the story is as much about them as two people as it is about unfathomable Lovecraftian monstrosities.”

You can find out how all of these changes unfold when Sherlock Holmes The Awakened comes to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S at April 11, 2023.
