Board game fans around the world must have mourned the death of an industry legend this week. German game designer Klaus Teuber, the genius behind Settlers of Catan, has died aged 70 after a short illness. The death was confirmed by Catan Studio, which released a statement on the tragic news earlier today. Teuber, who was still a driving force within the company and was working on a new expansion for the game, leaves a huge void and our thoughts are with his family and colleagues.”

Teuber, who created Settlers of Catan nearly 30 years ago, was one of the biggest stars in the board game industry, whose creations touched and influenced the lives of countless people. Catan won the coveted “Spiel des Jahres” award in 1995 and has seen over 50 different expansions and spin-offs over the years, almost all of them very good, as well as several adaptations in the world of video games.
