Game news Santa Monica Studio (God of War) is hiring for unannounced game

A job posting reveals that the next God of War slated for PS5 isn’t the only project in the works at Santa Monica Studio. Sony’s first-party studio is looking to hire an art director for an unannounced game.

Job offer was relayed yesterday on the Santa Monica Studio Twitter account, which directly mentions an “unannounced title”. The artistic director will have the mission of “coordinating large teams of artists in several fields in order to realize the creative promise of a new large-scale project” and will have to “develop the aesthetic pillars of the project”, that is to say “the environments, the characters and creatures, props, lighting and special effects “. Note that a total of 25 positions are currently vacant at Santa Monica Studio, including a lead writer.

For now, it’s hard to know what this new unannounced project is. Recall that shortly after the release of God of War on PS4 in April 2018, its director and creative director Cory Barlog had expressed his wish to create a brand new license. “I would love to create my own game. A title that comes 100% from my original vision. That would be great. Whether I can convince Sony remains to be seen.”, he had declared.

Founded in 1999, Santa Monica Studio released the Kinetica racing game in 2001 and then exclusively developed the God of War franchise thereafter. The next opus, God of War “Ragnarok”, was unveiled last September during the PS5 Showcase with a simple logo and a date: 2021.
