It’s probably best to start this trailer with an important notice. We still don’t have Resident Evil 4 in our hands. Instead, we received a 17-minute gameplay trailer that gave us a good look at the game ahead of its release later this month. Although we have a pretty good impression, we can’t speak to the feeling of combat or the suspense of playing the game, because we just haven’t had that privilege yet.

That said, we can now dive into Resident Evil 4 Remake, the latest in Capcom’s series of modern twists on the classic horror franchise. Resident Evil 4 is arguably the most anticipated game in the series to get the remake treatment, and from what we’ve seen so far, it looks like Capcom is up to the task.

In our preview, we took a look at various locations in Chapter 4 of Resident Evil 4, starting with some fighting and exploring near the lake, before attacking the castle where we found Ramón Salazar, and finally end with the fight against Jack Krauser. . Throughout the game, we see all the ways Capcom has modernized Resident Evil 4 Remake into the AAA horror experience it needs to stand out in today’s market.

It probably goes without saying that Resident Evil 4 Remake is better than the original 2005 game, but it’s still worth noting. how much better does it look this new album. The character models, lighting, and visual effects, especially the explosions, make Resident Evil 4 Remake a visually pleasing game that stands out even among its modern horror counterparts, as it conveys an added sense of dread when monsters around you that they hunt look more realistic than ever.

Beyond visual improvements, Resident Evil 4 Remake includes a ton of gameplay changes. Parrying, for example, is now an important part of combat, and while you can back up and shoot enemies from afar, getting closer can save you ammo. The parry mechanic allows you to parry everything from a stray attack to the Garrador’s giant claws. Timing is key, but if you get it right, it seems like you can create some amazing moments, like when Leon stopped a Molotov cocktail in mid-air.

There seems to be a lot more depth to combat in Resident Evil 4 Remake, as evidenced by how you can consistently take out enemies by stunning them with headshots or knocking them to the ground with leg kicks. . Both options allow you to perform melee attacks against your opponents, which seems to be the main focus this time around, as it’s a quick way to finish off enemies. Whether it’s stabbing someone in the jugular or rushing at a cultist like you’re playing WWE 2K22, there are plenty of options to get you closer to your enemies. The advantages of mastering parries and melee later came in handy against Jack Krauser. Instead of a QTE sequence, you will now have to fight Really against Krauser, and you’ll have to parry his knife attacks.

Escorting Ashley also seems to be much less of a hassle in Resident Evil 4 Remake. Although you have to make sure the cultists don’t take her away, you now have a lot more options to protect her. First, in Resident Evil 4 Remake, you can take a more stealthy approach, instead of running and shooting around the map. While this doesn’t apply to Ashley’s play, it does mean you’re less likely to draw enemies towards her and need to keep an eye out for her. The “tight” and “loose” commands also help, as they can ensure that Ashley doesn’t get caught up in a fight or get too far away. Ashley also seems quite strong now, as it took a projectile launched from a catapult to incapacitate her.

Resident Evil 4

While we can’t guarantee the actual feel of the game or its performance, at first glance Resident Evil 4 Remake is shaping up to be the most polished remake of Capcom’s horror franchise to date. It feels like enough has been done to enhance the original experience without detracting from what players fell in love with in the first place. But, as we said at the start, take these impressions with a grain of salt, as we’ve only had a look at the game and haven’t tested it yet.
