As Redfall’s release date approaches, Arkane’s take on open-world gaming with the studio’s signature immersion and design is grabbing everyone’s attention. The shooter can be played solo or co-op, so questions are being raised about how Redfall will fit into what Arkane has done before, and the studio has some answers.

Redfall Production Director Ben Horne spoke to IGN about Arkane’s approach to their new game, also showing off new Redfall games.

“Left 4 Dead is an amazing game, but we wanted to create something that we felt contained Arkane’s DNA,” says Horne. “Games like Dishonored, Dishonored 2, Prey, and most recently Deathloop. You can think of all of these games as a Venn diagram, where they overlap in really key areas where we like to tell stories.

Horne adds that for Dishonored that difference meant stealth, for Prey it meant physics, and for Redfall it means a focus on world building. “I think it’s natural to make games in a certain mold and say ‘we want to take what we like here and we want to break that mold. Making a great open-world game broke the mold for us.”

It was also recently revealed that Redfall will always require an online connection, even in single-player mode, and Horne said it’s been incredibly difficult to find the balance between players deciding to dive fully into single-player and those wanting only up to three friends join. .

That being said, there are no ties of any kind when playing with friends, which means that if there are four of you, you can all go to every corner of the map and do whatever you want whenever you want. want.

With Redfall being Arkane’s first foray into open worlds, like FromSoftware with last year’s Elden Ring, there have understandably been plenty of questions about how the immersive sim creation game will pan out. Arkane says Redfall will play more like Far Cry than Left 4 Dead, as exploration will play a key role instead of playing in smaller, linear levels. You can watch the full Redfall interview on IGN.

There’s also a huge Bethesda Steam sale going on right now, which includes discounts on plenty of Arkane games like Dishonored, Deathloop, Prey, and more, so be sure to check it out if you want to dig deeper into the studio’s work. before Redfall. . .
