If we expected sales of Sony’s latest console to increase since the end of the shortage, we wouldn’t have imagined such a huge increase…

Marketed since the end of 2020, the PS5 has not known only happy daysin particular because of the crisis in electronic components.

PS5 beats Switch in Japan for the first time!

A few weeks ago Sony officials proudly announced the end of the scarcity with a salvo of videos highlighting the biggest licenses of the brand. If sales were to get a big boost, no one seemed to have foreseen such a tidal wave.

According to data collected by Famitsu, the console sold 366,982 units in Japan during the month of February, compared to “only” 221,041 for the Nintendo Switch. Thus, this is the first time that the PlayStation 5 outperforms its hybrid counterpart: a real tour de force when you know how popular the Big N machine is on Japanese territory.

For your information, sales of Sony’s latest console increased 457% year-on-year over the same period. Indeed, only 65,772 copies found buyers in February 2022. Similarly, by combining the sales of the first four from the previous year, we are still below the 366,982 recently recorded.

To continue in this line, the brand would benefit from soon offering a new PlayStation Showcase. Obviously, this would be the opportunity to present the next big titles coming to PS5, like Final Fantasy XVI, Marvel’s Wolverine or even Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, with a few surprises!
