With the first quarter of 2023 behind us, we look to April. And the web3 gaming scene, especially anything related to mobile gaming, feels ready to jump to the forefront of online gaming! Here are some games to watch in April.

I declare April mobile month for Web3 games! As always, the space changes quickly. And while AI is the current buzzword, mobile technology is the primary driver for much of today’s development. Mobile gaming could also be the gateway for a flood of new players to get involved in the blockchain space.

I expect to see a number of new Web3 compatible mobile games released in the coming months. And if they succeed, they will attract a growing crowd of developers to the scene. We have previous mints, alphas, and records for mobile-focused games like Hunters On-Chain, Blast Royale, WAGMI Defense, and Rogue Nation. Meanwhile, Gods Unchained is still smoothing out the rough edges of its mobile app, and Gala Games is working to bring its newly acquired suite of mobile games into the blockchain space.

Now, of course, not all games will be playable on mobile devices. But casual games represent a huge market. One that many web3 developers are eager to acquire!

chain hunters

Although only available on a testnet, Hunters on-Chain has continued to rank in the top 10 most played games for the past three weeks! With your T1 Genesis Hunter Chest sale over, look for Hunters to push for a release soon. They also recently announced that they plan to release mobile versions first. Rumor has it that downloads are available now for early testers!

Hunters On-Chain is a free game. If you want to start playing on the testnet, you can ask on their Discord and they will provide you with a common hunter to use. This hunter will also be transferred to the mainnet once the game is launched.

mocaverse

Mocaverse launched its first PFP mint and also implemented an experience system for its new NFTs in March. As part of the Animoca brands, Mocaverse should continue to find ways to add value to its Moca NFTs. It’s rare to see a collection of PFPs provide utility for their NFTs so quickly. But this speed show bodes well for the future of this collection. And since Animoca seems to have half of the Web3 gaming space in its hands, it looks like space to watch.

Voxie Tactics

The Dragonfest event kicks off in April with a new PvE challenge, a new Drako class, and more. Voxie Tactics has also introduced and released a number of updates to its crafting/forging system. The strategy genre is very neglected in web3 games. Voxie Tactics already has a solid foundation. If they can continue to grow their game with additional activities, events, and UI improvements, this free-to-play, play, and win fantasy-based tactical game should be around for a while!

Exploded Earths

Recent adjustments to Splinterlands to counter bots have resulted in a significant decrease in the number of active players for this trading card game. Now, presumably most of them were bots, so we don’t see a huge production of real players. But the imminent launch of the first phases of the land game (surveying is expected to begin in early April), will be a good litmus test to see how many active owners there are.

echoes of empire

Echoes of Empire has announced plans to launch a beta in October 2023 and also conduct a playtest in April. The strategy game market is surprisingly small for web3 games. So there are still plenty of opportunities to claim a leading role.

This Echoes of Empires Playtest will take place from April 19 to 24. This round will only be open to those with Celestial Claim NFTs. Unfortunately, I am not an owner, so I will have to find out about the second-hand game. But I can’t wait to see what they have to show!
