Reviewers agree: Returnal for PC is the prettiest and most polished version of the game. Reviewers say there are few bugs.

Yesterday saw the release of the PC version of Returnal. Housemarque’s game, which was only available on the PlayStation 5 console from 2021, has officially launched on Steam and the Epic Game Store..

On PC, as on PS5, the title received an exceptionally warm welcome from critics. At the time of writing this post feedback on PC has an average score of 87/100 on Metacritic.

Back in the eyes of reviewers

in reviews feedback looks like almost perfect blush and a very successful port. As for the game itself, almost everything is praised, from the phenomenal graphics, to the intriguing story and atmosphere, to the “meaty” gameplay and the satisfying gameplay loop.

Let the high quality of Returnal be evidenced by the fact that the main criticism of the game, which appears in various reviews, is the exorbitant level of difficulty, which in some places is supposed to irritate and test the patience of players. .

The game works great as a PC port. Housemarque’s work is said to look downright “crazy” on PC, delivering an unprecedented level of detail. Also, the PC version of Returnal should not only look good, but also work well and be nearly bug-free.

It should be noted that the developers have prepared a number of visual options that allow you to customize the appearance and operation of the game according to your own needs and hardware capabilities.

The only major caveat in terms of performance on PC is the issue of occasional stuttering, i.e. a sudden, temporary drop in frame rate.. This problem is raised both by journalists and by the players themselves. However, it seems that in this case a simple patch should solve the problem.

Back to Steam

In the eyes of Steam players, Returnal is doing a little less well.. It’s true that the game received good ratings (79% upvotes out of 389 ratings), but it falls a little short of perfection.

Returnal also saw a fairly average launch in terms of active player count on Steam. At the hottest time there were 5700 (via steamdb.info). Interestingly, a similar result was achieved by Pharaoh: A New Era, a remake of the legendary 1999 city-builder, which also debuted yesterday on Valve’s platform.
