To change It’s no longer spring chicken, as its 6th birthday is approaching. Just because of its age, one would expect sales to start to decline.

Nintendo President Shuntaru Furukawa acknowledged that the Switch is entering “uncharted territory in the history of our dedicated video game platforms” during the company’s latest financial briefing. However, he still thinks there is room for sales to grow given “both new and multi-system demand for the hardware.” Nintendo will seek to create new demand with new games in addition to “working harder to convey the appeal of existing titles”.

Furukawa’s full words:

“Nintendo Switch will enter its seventh year of sales in March, and we see this as uncharted territory in the history of our dedicated video game platforms. Under these circumstances, it’s hard to imagine hardware sales continuing to grow at the same rate as they have so far. However, there are titles in development for the Nintendo Switch, and new titles will continue to be released in the future. We are seeing both a new demand and multi-system demand for the hardware, so we believe there is still room for sales growth. To this end, we want to maintain a high level of commitment to the hardware and create a new demand by not only releasing new titles, but also working harder to convey the appeal of existing titles.”
