Nintendo says its game prices are determined “on a case-by-case basis”, $70 not the trend in the future

Nintendo made it official today that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will cost $70, but that’s not to say that’s a sign of things to come. Game Informer managed to get a few comments from the company on the situation that might clear things up a bit.

As to why the price of the new Zelda game is as it is, Nintendo simply stated, “We determine the suggested retail price for any Nintendo product on a case-by-case basis.” Game Informer also asked if this was the trend for Nintendo games in the future, to which Big N replied, “No. We determine the suggested retail price for any Nintendo product on a case-by-case basis.”

A $70 game is something we’ve never seen before from Nintendo, so the news came as a surprise to many. However, as stated above, it is not a fixed price.

Metroid Prime Remastered, which got a surprise announcement and launched today, is just $40, while Pikmin 4, another big upcoming release from Nintendo, will cost $60. Nintendo doesn’t have any other $70 games yet, but it’s likely to happen again in the future.
