For nearly a decade, Shigeru Miyamoto has been working on Pikmin 4 and several times it said it’s almost done, so we’ve been waiting for a Nintendo Switch release date for quite some time. In the Nintendo Direct we saw a new trailer for Pikmin 4 and it was confirmed that it will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on July 21, 2023.

The games in the Pikmin series have been very well received by critics but they are niche games that don’t sell much, so it’s lucky we’re about to get a fourth installment. This Shigeru Miyamoto project seems to be his most ambitious yet and features new variants of Pikmin creatures, which we saw in yesterday’s trailer.

In the Pikmin 4 trailer shown at the Nintendo Direct this Wednesday, February 8, we saw a new type of Ice Pikmin, which can freeze enemies and water surfaces to walk on. We also saw a dog-like creature called Oatchi, which changes the gameplay in interesting ways by opening paths and attacking enemies.

The new Pikmin 4 trailer also showed us the new protagonist of the game and some of the characters we found in the adventure, because apparently in this Nintendo Switch title we will have to find lost castaways. In the trailer, we saw the red, yellow, and blue Pokémon we know so well before we saw the new creatures, as well as situations in which we can use them.

For Pikmin fans, there’s no doubt that Pikmin 4 looks like a step up in the franchise, but we’ll surely hear more details closer to its release date. At the moment, Pikmin 4 is confirmed to be coming to the Nintendo Switch on July 21, 2023, so we’ll be able to play it by the middle of the year.
