The first of three big updates to V Rising: Secrets of Gloomrot has arrived. Accompanied by multi-level castles and a whole new area filled with new resources and fearsome enemies, the vampire survival game just got better.

Secrets of Gloomrot is one of three planned updates for Stunlock’s survival adventure and focuses on Gloomrot, a brand new area teeming with creepy creatures.

Zona V Rising Gloomrot

The Gloomrot area is located north of Dunley Farmlands and is divided into Gloomrot North and Gloomrot South. About the same size as Farmlands, it is described as “a land of equal parts dirt, ambition, brilliance and madness”, and is characterized by its “polluted valleys and lightning-scorched highlands “.

Our enemies are mutant experiments and mechanical threats, but sucking the blood of the region’s twisted geniuses will grant you new technologies and push Vardoran into its own industrial revolution.

V Rising gets multi-story castles

However, for building enthusiasts like me, the new tiered castle system is the real headlining this update. Stunlock has added real stairs (previously you just had to build them on ramps) and these are essential for accessing higher levels.

These stairs cannot be destroyed when your castle is under siege, and their railings will protect you from projectiles if you disturb the wrong people.

You’ll be able to create a three-story castle, but that’s a lot of stairs to climb. Fortunately, the developers have also added small teleporters to help you move around. You’ll need to get the recipe to craft them, and they’ll disconnect when you’re under siege, so maybe don’t try to use them as an escape route.

There are also some weapon upgrades (that great sword is coming, folks!), along with new enemies, spells, trading posts, and the jewelry system that will allow you to upgrade your spells.

I love V Rising when it dropped last year, but fell by the wayside in light of shiny new releases. However, this update makes me want to dive back in. The new neighborhood resonates on my street, and I could spend hours building towering new castles and customizing them to suit my Gothic aesthetic. I want to discover the secrets of Gloomrot, and I can’t wait to explore them.
