Another day, another Forspoken update that seems to lose interest in being a patch. Since the RPG game’s release, players have reported stutters, crashes, and a host of other graphical issues, but Square Enix seems content to leave the bugs behind.

While the first Forspoken patch apparently did more harm than good, subsequent patches failed to fix issues that appeared after 1002, with stutters, crashes, and general glitches still endemic to Athia.

Luminous has confirmed that a big upcoming patch “will include general performance improvements, graphics, gameplay, general updates and fixes”, but I’m afraid it’s not this one, the friends.

No, the Forspoken 1.04 update is just as disappointing as previous iterations, with minor issues and more localization fixes leading to a relatively beige update.

Unfortunately, the outcome of these small tweaks will likely be more frustrating, as many fans argued that the open-world game simply dried up after mixed reviews and a rocky launch. As someone who has played the game a bit and enjoyed it (sue me), this also puts a damper on my experience, as I certainly feel like the game has been left to rot a bit . Abandoned? Rather Forsaken, right?

Forspoken 1.04 Update

I live in hope that we’ll see some big fixes soon, but for now, here are the patch notes for Forspoken’s 1.04 update, courtesy of Square Enix.

Technical issues

  • Fixed an issue where the camera moved unintentionally when some Xinput devices were used as a controller. (PC version)
  • Fixed an issue where the FSR setting automatically changes to Normal on game restart when FSR, DLSS and 3D resolution is set to a certain setting. (PC version)
  • Fixed an issue where the game displayed unwanted behavior when the PlayStation®5 DualSense Edge Wireless Controller was connected to the PC. (PC version)
  • Various minor fixes.

Feature updates

  • Changed text font for Traditional/Simplified Chinese.
  • Updated the system text that displays when certain items are unlocked.
  • The system text that accompanies the patch 1.03 mouse settings bug fix update will now be displayed in all languages.
  • Minor optimization for some functions.
