PewDiePie

There is no need to explain in more detail who PewDiePie is at this point. The Swede, whose real name is Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, has been the best-known person on YouTube for around 10 years and the most subscribed creator on the entire platform. In addition, he is also one of the absolute top earners.

Technically, there’s been a channel with more subscribers than PewDiePie for quite some time. A few years ago he fought a subscription race with “T-Series” for months. An Indian channel backed by a massive music label that controls almost the entire entertainment industry in India. A superiority against which even the Swede was powerless in the long term.

Nonetheless, PewDiePie continued to be the platform’s most subscribed individual. But this title could also go to someone else this year. And for many fans it should be someone who really deserves it.

MrBeast

Jimmy Donaldson, best known as MrBeats, has been active on YouTube since 2012. However, his YouTube career only really took off in 2017. Previously, he published over 1000 videos over 5 years without the American’s success really showing.

But when his hype came, he came right – in 2020 he reached 34 million subscribers on Youtube. He also received the title YouTuber of the year 2020. In the same year he was among the top 10 highest-paid YouTubers for the first time.

Most subscribers

Currently, PewDiePie continues to be the most subscribed streamer on YouTube. However, MrBeast has been catching up rapidly for years in terms of the number of subscribers.

At the moment there is probably no content creator in the world who can keep up with the relevance of his videos. His IRL recreation of the Squid Game series has garnered 215 million views so far.

The 34 million subscribers in 2020 have now grown to 90 million. PewDiePie, on the other hand, has 111 million. Such a rapid increase could be dangerous for PewDiePie. MrBeast gains half a million new subscribers weekly. This makes his channel one of the fastest growing channels on the platform.

If he keeps up that growth, he’ll overtake PewDiePie in just six months. But PewDiePie remains calm. “I guess I’m gonna have to start my next drama with MrBeast. Diss track coming — nah, I’m just joking. I’m not gonna do that.”
