If a new Street Fighter and Tekken weren’t enough, it looks like we might be getting a more impactful fighting game in the near future.

Yesterday, during an earnings call from Warner Bros. Discovery, Andrew Slabin, executive vice president of global investor strategy for the company, noted how “mortal combat 12was supposed to happen this year.

That’s what he had to say in an audio clip that has since been shared on social networks:

“And there’s plenty more to come, including the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which are also set to launch this year, with ambitious launch projections.”

Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon made a joke on social media that seemed to indirectly reference the latest earnings call news:

Other than a 2023 release, there’s no set date and we don’t yet know what platforms MK12 is locked to, so stay tuned for a more “official” announcement. This game will follow Mortal Kombat 11, which arrived on Xbox platforms in 2019.
