UK AMC’s recent report on the entire ActiBlizz Xbox deal had many notable comments, including one related to Microsoft’s admission that Xbox Game Pass could affect game sales in the next 12 months. the introduction of service vouchers. Following this report, the idea that Xbox Game Pass can “cannibalize” game sales started to spread like wildfire and as a result, Microsoft issued a statement about it.

In a company response to Eurogamer, Microsoft once again defended Xbox Game Pass, reiterating that the service is viable for the platform as well as developers and consumers. Here is the statement shared by Eurogamer:

“Xbox Game Pass gives gamers and game creators more choice and opportunity in how they discover, experience and deliver games…For gamers, it means giving them another option to experience games and play with friends at a great price. For developers, this means creating another option to monetize their games.

We strive to help game creators of all sizes maximize the total financial value they receive through Game Pass. Each game is unique, so we work closely with creators to create a personalized program that reflects what they need, ensures they are financially compensated for their participation in the service, and leaves room for creativity and innovation. .

As a result, the number of developers interested in working with Game Pass continues to grow.”

While the Xbox owner isn’t backing down on these CMA-related comments about game sales, it does reinforce his own position that Xbox Game Pass is positive and provides another revenue stream for developers.

Whichever way you look at it, it’s no surprise that such a popular service has the potential to hurt game sales: nearly 30 million gamers use Xbox Game Pass and will naturally play many games through the service.

Obviously, such adverse effects do not change Microsoft’s strategy: a strategy to grow Game Pass by adding engaging content to its library. Hopefully the number of subscribers continues in the right direction to help the Xbox cause.

What do you think of this statement? Happy to see Microsoft moving forward with Game Pass? Let us know in the comments.
