Today publisher Ratalaika Games and developer Rasul Mono announced The Guise for To change. The dark metroidvania will be available on March 17, 2023.

The Guise is a fairy tale about a boy trapped in the body of a monster. You can find more information in the following overview:

The Guise is a distinguished-looking game in which “evil” has apparently already won the game. In the world where the player is caught, there is almost no light and hope for nothing good. Dying settlements, dark forests, winding dungeons, and deadly demon-filled valleys abound.

The action begins in a children’s home, perhaps the only bright and warm place in the game. It is there, in the bedroom of the owner of the orphanage, that a boy named Ogden finds a strange mask that turns into a monster. The game is based on Ogden’s new look, new abilities, and relationship to the hostile world around him. The goal of the frightened and disoriented Ogden, who has turned into a monster, is to regain his human form. The player’s goal is to make the most of the monster’s appearance.

An ancient conspiracy by the local gods prevents Ogden from becoming human again, and nearly everything living and inanimate opposes his remaining as the monster. The player must get used to his new body, master new abilities and try not to lose the remnants of his humanity.

You, the player, take on the role of Ogden, our hero, who has animal-like agility, monstrous strength, and abilities not accessible to ordinary people. You will have to learn various skills like ceiling running, finishing, spitting acid, spitting bombs and many more. As in all ‘metroidvania’, to get a new ability the player will have to defeat a certain boss. For example, after the death of Priscilla, the rat queen, we will be able to climb the walls and run on the ceiling, which will open access to new places.

There are a number of exciting and challenging side quests, some of which relate to life in the orphanage (although Ogden has become a monster, the children in the orphanage still see him as a friend). For example, one mission is to help a mad cultist who wants to destroy the remaining angels in the world.

The world of The Guise consists of seven large regions, each with 10-20 interconnected locations. Some pitches have multiple paths through forks, multiple entrances and exits. All locked exits can be unlocked by acquiring a certain ability (for example, after acquiring the “Spider Legs” ability, the player can overcome a space filled with water by simply running along the ceiling above the space ). Secrets, hidden passages and secret rooms containing various treasures are scattered across the world.
