minecraft mobs These are the living entities of Minecraft: short for mobile, these sometimes lovable, sometimes aggressive creatures roam the many biomes of the blocky universe. They will interact and respond to you, other players, and other mobs, whether it’s a zombie literally knocking on your door or the chickens in your backyard chicken coop.

There are many aspects that make Minecraft one of the best PC games of all time, and its creatures certainly help, whether mythical or real, hostile or friendly. Minecraft mobs are susceptible to the same physical and environmental changes that affect players, such as catching fire or drowning. They can be attacked and killed with weapons, and when killed they drop resources and experience points, and sometimes hostile mobs drop rarer items. So while you can add more mobs with various Minecraft mods, here are all the Minecraft mobs available in the vanilla game right now, and announced for the future.

New Minecraft Monsters

New mobs are added all the time, some come with new content updates every year, and some are voted for by fans in Minecraft Live mob voting. With Minecraft 1.20 due out this year, here are two new mobs that aren’t in the game yet.

Oledor

The Sniffer won the Minecraft Live Mob 2022 vote, beating out the Copper Golem and Rascal. The Sniffer not only adds a new crowd to the sandbox game, but brings with it the beautiful new tropical Torchflower, as the ancient creature can sniff out old Torchflower seeds from the ground.

camel

Minecraft Camel was announced as part of the as yet unnamed 1.20 update, and in fact are in the game right now, more or less. Although you won’t encounter camels in the desert in new worlds, the most recent Java snapshots and Bedrock preview test worlds have a toggle for experimental features, including camels!

Minecraft Passive Mobs

Passive mobs in Minecraft will not attack you and will run away when attacked. They have the ability to reproduce, so you will see baby animals in the same area. Most passive mobs can be tamed, if they haven’t already, like horses in Minecraft. Then there are the inhabitants of Minecraft villages, such as traders and villagers. Other barnyard friends can provide resources, such as sheep’s wool or cow’s milk.

Minecraft Neutral Mobs

If you are provoked, neutral mobs in Minecraft will attack you, which can be useful if you are looking for items or XP. Some neutral mobs, like wolves, will attack other mobs, like rabbits or sheep, and llamas are aggressive towards wild wolves. Minecraft bees can be found in flower forests and plains, or beehives can be made of wooden planks and honeycombs.

Hostile Minecraft mobs

Hostile mobs in Minecraft are dangerous and aggressive and will attack you within a certain range, usually 16 blocks, without any obstructions. However, some mobs are able to detect you from 100 blocks away. Flying mobs like a Minecraft Ghost appear above and try to swoop in and attack you. A boss mob is a special type of hostile with higher detection range and more health; examples include Minecraft Ender Dragon and Minecraft Wither.
