Jim Henson and Kermit the Frog are two instantly recognizable names today. American puppeteers and arguably his most famous creation, the pair have been entertainment titans since the ’70s and have remained iconic nearly 30 years after Henson’s passing.
But while many are familiar with the green frog, you may not be familiar with Henson’s green car of the same name. As a recent report by Hagerty mentioned and revealed, the puppeteer received a green Lotus Eclat in 1978, known as Kermit the Car.
The reason seems to be due to Lotus trying to spread its name and reputation, and to suit the puppeteer and what made him famous, Lotus had the car painted the same color as the felt frog. The car headlights that appeared even made the car look like the frog.
The reason many probably don’t know about the car is that, according to The Jim Henson Company, it was never delivered to the puppeteer, but was stolen and used for a bank robbery, then never found.
