Is Resident Evil 4 Remake Steam Deck compatible?
Yes, Resident Evil 4 Remake is compatible with Steam Deck. Although our tests are currently based on the Chainsaw demo and not the final build, we couldn’t find any game-breaking issues or bugs. That being said, you might struggle to get fps on Valve’s laptop right now, as it’s apparently not optimized for the laptop in terms of performance.
In our Resident Evil 4 Steam Deck tests, we couldn’t hit 60fps on handheld, and the frequent frame drops spoiled the mood a bit. The game is technically playable, but if you’re picky about performance, the experience might leave a bad taste in your mouth.
Strangely, enabling FSR 2.0 on both in the settings menu makes little difference in the Resident Evil 4 Remake demo, as frame rates will still be between 35 and 45fps. Worse still, the feature hampers already scaled-down handheld visuals, so we’d recommend disabling it during handheld play.
Switching to SteamOS 3.4.6 Preview in the Steam Deck settings menu will help alleviate any catastrophic issues with the Resident Evil 4 Remake demo. However, we are still waiting for some quirks to be fixed, such as the mouse cursor hiding in the middle of the game screen and a mismatched aspect ratio. Again, most of the issues above will not affect gameplay, but are irritating enough to mention.
Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 Remake release date is just around the corner, so we’re hoping to get a day one patch that fixes all of the outstanding Steam Deck quirks. There’s a chance that Valve will also give the iconic horror game a shiny compatibility status badge on its store page, as Resident Evil Village is rated “playable” on the laptop.
