HBO episode six The last of us it showed Joel and Ellie making the arduous journey to Jackson, Wyoming. The episode, titled “Kin”, gave viewers a first look at the community that featured prominently in the second game and was only shown remotely during the first game. The barrage from the first game was cleverly replaced with the town of Jackson, which left plenty of room for some fun Easter eggs. One cameo in particular set the entire internet on fire, when a girl watches Ellie from a distance at the community center. The girl he’s looking at is likely Ellie’s love interest from The Last of Us Part II, Dina.

The girl in question is only shown for a brief moment, but there are several clues that it is Dina. The actress in the role is Paolina van Kleef, and she bears a striking resemblance to Dina from The Last of Us Part II. Suspiciously, she also wears jeans and boots similar to those Dina wears at the start of the game, where she and Ellie go on patrol.
During the official The Last of Us podcast, showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin hint that this easter egg is a character we might find more than a day away. Druckmann also adds that in The Last of Us Part II game, a story is told about Dina and Ellie, where they reminisce about their first meeting. Druckmann points out that this story is very similar to what happens during this particular scene in the TV show.

Dina is an important character in The Last of Us Part II. She is a spunky and funny young woman of Jewish descent who befriends Ellie during her stay in Jackson. It is hinted that the two have been friends for a while at the start of the sequel, but things started to take a turn for the friendship when it was revealed that Dina stole a kiss from Ellie at a community dance. the previous night on patrol.
Dina accompanies Ellie on her crusade to Seattle, but has to spend a lot of time away from drama and listening to the radio in her theater hideout when she finds out she’s pregnant with her ex, Jessie. She has a strong relationship with Ellie for most of the game, but Ellie’s PTSD eventually creates a barrier between them.

II. Giving fans of the game even the slightest hint for a second season is a stroke of genius from the show’s creators.
